When you hear a siren while driving, the most appropriate action is to pull over to the right side of the road and stop. This procedure is essential for allowing emergency vehicles—such as ambulances, fire trucks, or police cars—clear passage. By moving to the right and stopping, you create a safe lane for these vehicles to maneuver through traffic quickly during emergencies.

This action is not only a common traffic law in many jurisdictions but also a critical part of driving safely and responsibly. Staying alert to emergency signals and acting promptly helps ensure that emergency responders can reach those in need without unnecessary delays.

In contrast, pulling over to the left side complicates the situation because it can impede the emergency vehicle's movement. Ignoring the siren or attempting to speed away from it can lead to dangerous situations, including obstructing traffic and potentially causing accidents. Thus, the most effective and safe response is to pull over to the right and come to a stop, demonstrating awareness and respect for emergency situations.
